Defined and Redefined I

     Hello my friends. This will be broken into several posts in order to cover my thoughts completely and consider any ideas or input from comments. To begin with, the title of this series of blogs is intended to point out that the history of many ideas and issues are regularly defined and redefined depending on who is making the argument. I have become quite the stickler on definition these days because of this convenient practice by so many in our day and age. It is no wonder that trying to have a discussion on any one topic is so impossible when terminology is conveniently being redefined to fit an agenda or avoid being clear about what one really means in their arguments. It's also important in the context of law and the court system. Words and their meanings matter greatly as witnessed when President Clinton argued what "is" is.
     I want to start with what I have noticed in the news for some time now that is bothering me more and more. All over the globe for the last 3-4 yrs. there has been one country after another that has liberal democratic parties winning elections. There is a trend of liberal left leaning groups influencing country after country across the globe. Whether it be the Egyptian and Libyan uprisings that overthrew their governments or "The Obama Administration’s use of $18 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars to influence constitutional changes in Kenya"  revealing "that at least one Obama grantee openly pushed to expand abortion access in Kenya despite a long-standing, annually renewed law that prohibits U.S. tax dollars from being used to lobby for or against abortion in other countries (known as the Siljander Amendment)..".      What seems more and more difficult to do, is to pin down exactly what liberal leaning groups are advocating for. What the heck is it? Democracy? Social Justice? Environmentalism? What? When I try to look at all the different groups and organizations and what they are advocating it's rather disorienting trying to keep them all straight. They define and redefine multiple issues across a multitude of cultural, political, theological, legal, moral and social platforms. There seems to be no definitive platform that encompasses their ideology. How does a constitutional, freedom loving American combat this tidal wave conglomerate of ideologies?
